BEACHES

Lefkada is famous for its heavenly beaches, with its blond sand and turquoise waters that have been awarded blue flags.
The impressive beaches in length and beauty are located on the west coast of Lefkada. Sandy, with clear waters, beaches that sometimes the green reaches the shore, sometimes rocks intersect violently and imposingly, beaches that shock:
Ammoglossa, Kastro, Gyra, Ai Giannis, Pefkoulia, Agios Nikitas, Mylos, Kathisma, Gialos, Egremni and Porto Katsiki.
Porto Katsiki, Kathisma and Egremni appear on the front pages of tourist magazines and newspapers in Greece and abroad and their fame has gone around the world.
Porto Katsiki, the famous and awarded as the best beach in Greece and one of the most popular in the Mediterranean, is breathtaking at first glance. Steep white rocks above the beautiful sandy beach and turquoise waters create an image of incredible beauty, while the east and south side of Lefkada, offers windless, small and large beaches, with pebbles and enjoyable waters: Lygia, Nikiana, Perigiali, Nidri, Desimi Poros, Ammousa, Agiofylli, Vasiliki.

 

ESCAPES

The paths in the mountain of Skara with the beautiful forest of Velanidia, the gorge of Melissa in Sfakiotes, the gorge in Dimosari, the waterfalls of Nydri in the green and cool landscape and the forest of Dafni in Syvros, create these insurmountable emotions that they will try to wander on foot.
Near the town of Lefkada, beautiful routes offered for a walk are the lagoon tour in its northern part, the Eleonas of the town, Phryni and Apolpaina, to the Monastery of Faneromeni. The most beautiful walking routes are from the village of Chortata, in Stavrota (altitude 1,141m) and the plateau of Englouvi. Also, the gorge of Melissa in Sfakiotes, the village Haradiatika with its springs and gorges, the gorge in Dimosari with its wonderful waterfalls, the forest of Daphne and the springs of Kerasia in Syvros are ideal for mountain biking.
Horseback riding is another sport worth trying in Lefkada. In the plain of Vassiliki but also in the olive grove of the city of Lefkada, there are riding schools that are bases for unforgettable excursions.

 

SIGHTS

Just outside the city and just opposite the floating bridge is the Venetian castle of Agia Mavra. Inside the city there is the archeological museum, which houses works of art, as well as finds from the Paleolithic era to Roman times and the Marina of Lefkada, which is considered one of the largest and most organized in the Mediterranean. At the entrance of the city, next to the port is the famous park of poets (Locals usually call it Bosqueto).
However, it is worth walking on the wooden bridge that is built over the canal, which is located right in front of the pedestrian street with the cafe-bars, next to the port of the city. On the beach of Gyra, near the city, are the four windmills out of the twelve that existed in the past, which until the end of the 20th century ground large quantities of grain, mainly from Russia. Near the village of Fryni, just outside the city is the Holy Monastery of Faneromeni, which is a museum of Ecclesiastical Art. Two km south of the city there is the area of ​​Kalligoni, which includes the ruins that survive from the prehistoric city of Nirikos. Apart from these, however, the visitor can get to know the beautiful natural landscapes of the island. The beaches of inexhaustible beauty, for which Lefkada is known worldwide, since many of them have been repeatedly voted by tourist guides as the best in the Mediterranean, with Porto Katsiki and Egremni being the most popular, attract many millions of tourists around the world. . There are also the waterfalls in Dimosari, just outside Nidri, as well as the Melissa Gorge in the municipality of Sfakioton. Cape Lefkata, located at the southern tip of the island, is inextricably linked to its history and causes great admiration to those who visit it.
